Big shout out to Graham Entraprenur Hankinson and co. for getting the Xzone Skatepark together and organising a rad comp today! As far as the comp went it was Skateport's team rider Chris Langford who won the street jam and the game of SK8 and then took 2nd in the mini ramp! Well done mate!! Also a big shout goes out to Skateport favourite Tom Fisher for 3rd in the street and 4th (1 point off 3rd) in the mini ramp! Of course it may all have been different if our other rider in the comp Ross Zajac hadn't given himself a 4" gash in the head (Gnarly footage coming soon!!) in the warm up and spent 4 hours of the day in A&E oops!! To rub salt into the wound Ross came back just in time to see the prizes being handed out ha haaa! He seemed fine with his newly super glued head and was glad no shaving occoured! He said he's gonna be in a little more careful at Boardmasters next week. Although there was a rumour Chris was waxing the floor just where Ross slammed ;). We then all piled outside to have a rad little session on an old Mercedes that had been altered to have a removable grind bar on the back bumper, SICK!

The whole gang just after the cat bar session!

The park itself is on the smaller side but well worth a visit as A) It's designed by skaters B) Lots of the park has movable sections which makes for inventive sessions C) We live in the UK and Its INDOORS! E) We should support as many parks as possible and make an effort to visit new  ones!! As well as Tom big shout out to the injured Sean Mollan (thanks for coming anyway!) Matt Williams, George Grice, Charlie Grassick and Josh 'The Mimsinator manny King unit of height' Mimms of which only Matt left not injured such was the ferocity and effort that was put in on the day!

As we all got in the car exhausted from the session we mustered up the strength to chat about the session and various ladies parts. We thought the day was over, how wrong..... as we pulled up to a set of lights Chris casually says 'Shall we check if that guys dead?'
We decided we should so we parked up. On closer inspection we found he wasn't a drunk as at first thought! We were all convinced that the majority of us had popped our 'seeing a dead body' cherry! However with a very daring check of the pulse from big T it turned out he was alive! Chris was really pleased! So after the police took over at the scene we departed with one hell of a day to digest.

Well see you all at Boardmasters a week on Wednesday!! Chris and Ross are also reppin' SuperToxic Urethane!

Blockless Combat.....

FS Air

Sunday 15th July was the day of the 7th Blockless Combat.

Just for the record everyone skated really well!!

Jesse Thomas showed everyone that he is young and has what it takes to do well at these competitions by bagging himself 3rd in the B-Group. Followed by a very good mate of Skateports Jake Anderson , Ricardo Camargo, a very under-rated skater grabbing himself a very well deserved 2nd place,  James Hemming showed everyone why he is on top of the series!! 1st place! This guy rips!

I got to see our new skater Oakley Liddell skate in the flesh for the first time today and I have to say I was blown away! I brought him some new pads and there was a mini disaster when they were the wrong size...ooops! He was the first of the day to pull a 540 and tricks such as 1 foot blunts, kickflip Indy’s and he made it look so easy! His practice runs were incredible and I couldn't see anyone coming first but Oakley! However when it came to the comp he stuttered slightly….maybe he tired himself out a bit going for it in practice? Anyway he was joint 4th with X-Games amateur Gold medallist ‘Sam Bosworth’.
You can see why Sam’s done so well in competitions! He has an explosive style that made him so exciting to watch!

Oakley gets the advertising thing real quick!

Mr Liddell didn't show sadness at the pad drama!

So to the top 3 in the A-Group final……………….

Oakley - 1 foot invert

3rd place in the A-Group competition was an old timer and long-time Vert legend Sean Goff showing that he still has some fight in him and he's not going to step off the top spots any time soon! 2nd place went to Joe Atkins. An overall shredder!  Jake has known him since he was little and he said it's been so nice to see that all the effort he puts in has been paying off. I hadn't seen him before and there was a point when I thought he might steal it! He very nearly landed a 540 and you'll probably see him get one at the next comp!

Finally 1st place went to our very own Jake Anderson!! Jake had never won a single A-Group Blockless Combat competition (been going 7 years!).  You could see how much it meant to him as he looked so nervous waiting for the results on the flatbottom (Well done Mr Goff for bringing a touch of drama to the occasion!)

Jake - Switch Feeble to Fakie

He won some amazing homemade trophies including a ‘Blockless’ Jack Daniels and an amazing 80’s shaped 1st prize deck!  Jake wants to thank Ride Skate Store, Toddtwist eBay Skate Store, all the brands who sponsor the vert series including us, for being there are supporting him in person!!
Next stop Blackpool ……..see me there? You couldn’t stop me!

COMPETITION NEWS......

UK Independent Vert Tour:Birmingham Leg (aka Blockless Combat)

Sunday the 15th of June was the Birmingham leg of the UK independent Vert tour. For the first time this year Skateport would have not one but 2 sponsored skaters representing on the day! We had been a long time admirer of our new addition and after his 1st place in the previous leg of the tour at Corby we thought it was high time we spoke to 'Oakley Liddell'.

Oakley-FS Air

Negotiations were surprisingly easy as he seemed keen to get on board and join our very own international Vert ripper 'Jake Anderson'! COME ON BOYS! Lets have a 1 and 2 on the podium! Results will follow shortly!!! Fingers crossed :)

Wednesday 4 July 2012

So the best laid plans of mice and men......

So the plan for GO SKATE day was to have a Dew Tour on a mini scale over one day! We were to hire a coach and head off to Orford Park were we would have a 90 Min skate followed by a 30 minute jam were points were awarded and noted. Then onto Victoria Park for much the same! After that we head to Runcorn's Phoenix Park to repeat the feat! We would then go to Frodsham park then head back to Southport park for the last session. The week leading up to the event the weather forecast said rain rain rain etc... so we ended up with a pretty awesome Plan B.....Deeside indoor skatepark Of course it was blazing hot sun all day! So it essentially turned into the Rola Cola Tour!!

NOW HERE WAS THE KICKER. The scores were given on effort of the skater at their current ability! So lets say we've got someone who has never dropped in before and they do it on the day they will score more highly that let's say Chris Langford doing a tre flip over a huge gap, its all about upping your game on the day!
